The important construction detail is the hem:
- The pants are naturally wide and straight when the drawstring is released.
- A drawstring is built into the hem casing of each pant leg.
- The drawstring opening and ends are positioned at the inner leg/inseam, not at the outer side of the ankle.
- When the drawstring is pulled, only the hem circumference gathers, creating the rounded/balloon effect shown in the photos.
- The gathering should look soft and adjustable, not like a permanently elasticated jogger cuff.
- The drawstring has small decorative hardware/stoppers at the ends, as shown in your close-up.
- When loosened completely, the hem opens back up and the pants become a full wide-leg trouser.
